About Joanne

On the summit of Island Peak with Ama Dablam in the background

My first climbing trip was to Mount Ophir, (Malaysia). I was pretty good at it, I guess, so I went on to climb more hills and mountains.

I am a member of the Singapore Women’s Everest Team. I have reached the summit on Fri, 22 May 2009 together with my climbing Sherpa Mr Dawa Tenzing at 5.30am (Nepal time). My Everest journey with the Women’s Team has been a story about ordinary people achieving extraordinary results.  After the climb, the team has been going to schools and organisations to share about our climb; we theme our talks as “Climb Your Own Everest”. If you would like to hear about our unique Everest journey, we will be happy to share. Contact the team at info@womenoneverest.com.

I have a special affection with Mt Rinjani (Indonesia) and G.Belumut (Malaysia). I have lost count on the number of trips I have made to these two places, so it is not all about snow and ice for me.

(Not) very serious (most of the time) 😀

I like to rock climb too, but in recent years, I have been climbing on plastic walls,  I would love to move out to climb on natural rocks.

From tropical treks to rock climbing to mountaineering, I enjoy every stage. There are many climbs that I have not done, and if opportunities arise, let us climb together!
