Have you ever thought about climbing Aconcagua? I have, and I will be leading the climb with Adventure Quests in Jan/Feb 2011.
Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the western hemisphere, located in western Argentina, near to the Chile border. It is also one of the 7 highest mountains of each continent (highest in South America), hence also commonly known for being one of the Seven Summits. In fact, Aconcagua is the highest point outside Asia. The peak was first attempted in 1883, but the first summit was made in 1897 by a Swiss guide. In December 2008, a 10yr old boy from Colorado became the youngest person to summit Aconcagua.
We are planning an attempt on the normal route. It is not technically demanding, but the altitude, extreme cold, and stormy winds make the climb a serious undertaking.
If you are keen to know more about our plans on Aconcagua, or if you are interested to find out more about climbing at altitude, come join me on Sat, 26 June from 1.30pm to 2.30pm at 187 Sims Ave. (Location Map)
